Objective
To determine shelf and rack requirements and develop material handling system and detail layout.
Process
- 1. Review Business Policies: Review goals to obtain a clear understanding of the company's long range plans.
- 2. Develop Proposed Processes: Design operating process for handling and controlling material throughout the distribution cycle.
- 3. Determine Throughput Requirements: Review sales forecasts to develop projected shipping, picking, and receiving activities.
- 4. Develop Inventory Configuration: Review line item requirements to develop shelf, rack, and storage needs for raw and finished goods.
- 5. Develop Support Space: Document space required to accomplish planned receiving, picking, packing, and shipping requirements.
- 6. Develop Relationship Chart: Determine spatial relationships between warehouse racking and support systems, and manufacturing cells.
- 7. Determine Material Handling System: Develop handling system and determine capital and operating expenses.
- 8. Develop Detail Layout: Develop detailed layout of equipment, shelves, racks, employee support, staging, shipping, and receiving.
